A National Consultation Forum on Standards for Biotechnology has been held at Palm Garden Hotel, IOI Resort, Putrajaya on 24th November 2009. The objectives from this forum are to update and to create awareness on the National Biotechnological Policy and the current status of standards related to biotechnology at national and ISO le vels, and to provide a platform for discussion amongst the relevant stakeholders including practitioners, regulators, academicians and researchers with regard to the need for standards related to biotechnology and priority areas that require standardisation.

The main issues on this forum are:
1) Issues and problems faced within the sector.
2)How these issuea and problems could be addressed by standards.
3) The standards required in priority areas within the sector.

All the main issues that had been discussed will contribute to the on-going task of identifying needs for standards in the related biotechnological sectors and constitute valuable guidance for the formulation of the standardisation activities in biotechnology.
